According to the National Bureau, as of November 1, the population of Kazakhstan was 20,243,981 people. Compared to January 1, the number of Kazakhstani citizens increased by 210,139 people.
Population growth also occurred in Kazakhstan's cities. Almaty remains the most populous city, with 2,280,296 residents as of November 1 (2,228,675 at the beginning of the year). Next is Astana, with 1,511,807 residents (1,430,105 at the beginning of the year), followed by Shymkent, with 1,249,581 residents (1,222,066 at the start of the year).
More than one million people live in the Turkestan (2,154,461 as of November 1), Almaty (1,554,695), Zhambyl (1,222,835), and Karaganda (1,134,132) regions.
As of November 1, 12,727,404 people lived in cities, and 7,516,577 people are rural residents.
