According to statistical data, the population of Kazakhstan as of June 1, 2026, stood at 20,575,979 people. Since the beginning of 2026, the number of Kazakhstanis has increased by 76,157.

Population figures surpassed the 2 million mark in Almaty—2,366,525 people (an increase of 18,422)—and in the Turkestan Region—2,146,670 people (notably, the region's population has decreased by 2,535 since the start of the year).

More than 1 million Kazakhstanis reside in:

  • Astana - 1,674,699 people;
  • Almaty Region - 1,611,588 people;
  • Shymkent - 1,308,120 people;
  • Zhambyl Region - 1,213,556 people;
  • Karaganda Region - 1,130,733 people.

The least populated regions are:

  • Ulytau Region - 218,169 people;
  • North Kazakhstan Region - 512,388 people;
  • Abai Region - 593,583 people.

As of June 1, 2026, 13,168,438 Kazakhstanis lived in urban areas (an increase of 83,328), while 7,407,541 lived in rural areas (a decrease of 7,171).
