Tengrinews.kz - Speaking at the 5th meeting of the National Kurultai, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the proposed number of deputies in the new Parliament.

Tengrinews.kz - Speaking at the 5th meeting of the National Kurultai, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the proposed number of deputies in the new Parliament.

According to the Head of State, the working group on parliamentary reform initially proposed forming a unicameral parliament consisting of 500 deputies. However, it was later decided that there will be 145 deputies instead of the current 148 (98 in the Mazhilis and 50 in the Senate).

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that 8 committees will be created in the new Parliament.

The Head of State also stated that, by decision of the working group, it was agreed to abandon both the Presidential quota and the quota of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan.
