Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned about liability for false reports of acts of terrorism, according to Polisia.kz.

The ministry is drawing parents’ attention to the inadmissibility of spreading knowingly false reports about acts of terrorism, liability for which is provided under Article 273 of the Criminal Code.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, cases have been recorded of false information being spread about alleged planned explosions, arson attacks, and other threats to public safety through communication channels, the internet, messengers, and social media.

“Such actions are classified as a criminal offense regardless of motive — whether it is a joke, a prank, or an attempt to destabilize the situation. Knowingly false reports of an act of terrorism create a real threat to public safety, lead to mass evacuations, disrupt the work of government agencies, educational, medical, and other social facilities, and also divert significant emergency service forces and resources,” the ministry said.

The ministry also reminded the public that the law provides for punishment for this crime, including imprisonment.

“All such reports are subject to mandatory verification, and persons involved in their dissemination are identified, including through the use of modern digital and technical means,” the ministry added.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends:

  • not spreading unverified information;
  • not making false calls or reports, including online;
  • explaining to children that there is liability for knowingly false reports of acts of terrorism, including on social media and in messengers;
  • immediately reporting threatening messages to the police.

The ministry also urges citizens to comply with the law and behave responsibly in the digital space.
