Georgia President Mikhail Saakashvili stated that Kazakhstan’s investors entrusted with development of the Georgian Likani resort, are failing, "Gruzia Segodnya [Georgia Today]" reports. According to the Georgian leader, the national authorities would address the project. However, the President didn’t specify if the government would be looking for new investors. KazMunaiGas Georgia Director General Amanzhol Kussainov suggested that the Georgian authorities are now likely to render greater support to the project. Mr. Kussainov said in an interview for Russia’s Kommersant that the Kazakhstani side is not seeking to exit the project. He elaborated that the resort would be in a position to host visitors in two years’ time. In his turn, Borzhomi mayor Archil Mikeladze stated that no work is under way in Likani and the local authorities are looking forward to the construction works. The delay, according to him, harms the tourism potential of the region. Likani is a townlet located at the west end of the town of Borjomi in the Borjomi Gorge, some 160 km west of Tbilisi, capital of Georgia. Likani is adjacent to the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park and is a popular mountain spa. Likani recreational complex, including a Soviet-era sanatorium, was purchased, in April 2006, by the Kazakh state-owned energy company KazMunay Service which promised to develop the area into an international tourism center.
