Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan plans to distribute contraceptives free of charge.
Speaking at a government meeting, Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova urged local authorities to allocate funding for this initiative.
“We ask local executive bodies to allocate budget funds to hire and train personnel, improve facilities and equipment of medical institutions, provide transportation for pregnant women and children to regional centers, and ensure contraceptive access for women of reproductive age from vulnerable groups,” said the minister.
According to the ministry’s press service, women of childbearing age will be able to receive free contraceptives, including intrauterine devices (IUDs). These will be available at clinics across the country, including in cities of national significance.
The ministry notes that such measures are necessary to reduce unplanned and unwanted pregnancies, as well as in cases where pregnancy is medically contraindicated—ultimately helping to prevent maternal and infant mortality.
Earlier, the healthcare ministry named the best-selling medicines in the country.
