Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry plans to launch 11 new embassies starting from 2012, Foreign Minister Erzhan Kazykhanov announced July 29. According to the Minister, “11 new embassies are to be launched in 2012-2014, with 10 consulates transformed to diplomatic missions (…) Embassies in Indonesia, Brazil and Finland are to be opened in 2012, to be followed by embassies in South Africa, Vietnam and Sweden in 2013. Another batch of embassies will be opened in Kenya, Morocco, Mexico, Iraq and Slovakia in 2014. Besides, consulates general will be opened in Kazan (Russia), Osh (Kyrgyzstan), Khadzhent (Tajikistan), Ramallah (Palestine), Damascus (Syria), Brest (Belarus), Tallinn (Estonia), Sydney (Australia), Guangzhou (China), and Kuwait”. Following the sitting on Kazakhstan’s international affairs, PM Karim Massimov commissioned Finance Minister Bolat Zhamishev to consider the plan suggested by the Foreign Ministry.
