The individual is suspected of possessing psychoactive substance analogs with intent to distribute.
"With the assistance of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and Interpol, officers extradited a Kazakh citizen from Turkey to face criminal charges for illegal possession of psychoactive substance analogs in particularly large quantities," the Prosecutor General’s Office stated.
According to authorities, in December 2022, police in Astana found and seized 17 packets of methcathinone in large quantities from the suspect during an operation.
Following the offense, the suspect fled, leading to an international warrant for his arrest.
He was apprehended in Antalya in October and subsequently extradited to Kazakhstan. The suspect is currently being held in a detention center.
The agency noted that the alleged crime carries a potential prison sentence of 10 to 15 years, along with asset forfeiture.
Previously, another individual suspected of a serious crime was extradited from Russia to Kazakhstan.
