Kazakhstan has not taken any final decision on construction of a nuclear power plant, Novosti Kazakhstan reports, citing the Ministry of Industry and New technology. Late August a number of Kazakhstan media announced that Astana and Seoul were allegedly negotiating construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. “The Ministry does not confirm this information”, the statement reads. The Ministry made it clear that in the wake of the tragic developments at Fukushima “Kazakhstan is considering expediency of a nuclear power plant from the safety perspective (…) Besides, any suggestion on constructing a power plant will be considered by both industry experts, including international expertise, and public at large”.
