Tengrinews.kz – The Mazhilis deputies have approved the ratification of a treaty between Kazakhstan and Peru on the transfer of convicted persons and cooperation in criminal matters.

According to the treaty, Kazakhstan and Peru will transfer convicted individuals to serve their sentences in their home countries. The two sides have also agreed to provide mutual legal assistance in criminal cases, including information exchange and support in investigations.

“This agreement will improve the effectiveness of cooperation between the two countries in combating crime and contribute to the resocialization of convicts within their home society,” said Deputy Snezhanna Imasheva.

Context

Kazakhstan and Peru signed the agreement in October 2024. At the time, the General Prosecutor’s Office noted that some Kazakh citizens who broke the law had recently tried to flee to Latin American countries.

A similar treaty was previously signed with Brazil, and documents with Argentina and the Dominican Republic were also planned.
