Tengrinews.kz — The National Bank of Kazakhstan has prepared a draft resolution introducing changes to the rules for setting the official exchange rate of the tenge against foreign currencies.
According to the regulator, the document was developed, among other things, to bring the current regulations into line with updated legislation, including the Constitution, the Tax Code, the Digital Code, and the law “On the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.”
One of the key innovations is the expansion of the list of foreign currencies against which the official exchange rate of the tenge is set. At present, the list includes 39 currencies, but it is planned to increase it to 48.
Under the draft, nine more currencies are proposed to be added to the list. These are the national currencies of Vietnam, Egypt, Israel, Indonesia, Qatar, Mongolia, Oman, Pakistan, and Romania.
The National Bank explained that the decision was made based on an analysis of foreign trade turnover over the past five years, data on settlement currencies, as well as requests from individuals and legal entities.
After the document is adopted, the official exchange rate of the tenge will be set against a broader range of currencies used in international settlements.
