Rescue services and police warn that careless use of pyrotechnics could lead to tragic consequences.
"Fireworks must be launched at least 50 meters away from buildings and structures. Statistics often show that when a device fails to work, people get curious and try to inspect it. At that moment, the device may reignite, resulting in injuries," said Konstantin Kanin, head of the State Fire Safety Department of the Almaty Emergency Situations Department.
To avoid accidents during New Year celebrations, authorities urge people to purchase pyrotechnics only from certified stores and to inspect items carefully. Packaging must be intact, and the product must be within its expiration date.
Fireworks should only be ignited outdoors, far from power lines and vehicles, with people standing at least 50 meters away.
Improper use of fireworks can cause severe burns, eye injuries, or even amputations, rescue workers emphasize.
