Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan has reclaimed a unique lake in the north of the country with a cadastral value of 26.7 billion tenge, the Prosecutor’s Office of the North Kazakhstan region reported.
According to the supervisory authority, in 2020, under a contract for salt extraction, local executive bodies granted subsoil use rights to Lake Teke, covering an area of 21,500 hectares. A lease agreement was later signed for the land under the water body.
"However, despite the termination of the subsoil use contract in 2022, the authorized body failed to take unilateral pretrial action to terminate the lease for more than two years, violating the Land Code. This resulted in the improper use of land from the water fund," the Prosecutor’s Office stated.
Additionally, the business entity was not removed from the official registry of active subsoil users, contradicting the requirements of the Code on Subsoil and Subsoil Use.
"Thanks to the actions of a specialized environmental prosecutor, the land lease agreement was unilaterally terminated through pretrial procedures. The bitter-saline lake has been returned to state ownership. The information on the competent authority’s online resources has been updated accordingly. Responsible officials have been subjected to disciplinary action," the Prosecutor’s Office reported.
Previously, Kazakhstan revised a land plot agreement with Russia.
