Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan has been ranked 30th in the world for citizen generosity in charitable giving, according to the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), citing Ranking.kz.
The ranking shows that Kazakh citizens donate an average of 1.2% of their income to charity, a level higher than in several developed countries including the U.S., the U.K., Germany, and the Netherlands.
According to CAF, countries with lower average incomes often show higher generosity. The top five in the ranking include four African nations – Nigeria (2.8%), Egypt (2.5%), Ghana (2.2%), and Uganda (2%) – as well as China, where citizens contribute 2.2% of their income. A total of 101 countries participated in the CAF survey.

Data from Numbeo confirms that countries with higher wages typically occupy lower positions in generosity rankings. Germany ranked second-to-last at 0.4%, while Switzerland, despite having the world’s highest average nominal wages, placed 76th, with citizens donating only 0.7% of their income.
The report highlights that this trend has been observed for several years. Across the globe, 64% of people donate money or volunteer: 72% in Africa, 59% in Europe, 56% in North America, and 69% in Asia. The findings suggest that generosity is influenced not only by wealth but also by cultural and social norms.
