Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan plans to introduce quotas for six months on the export of cattle meat from the country. The Ministry of Agriculture has published the corresponding draft order on the Open Legal Acts website.
The draft order was developed based on a decision by the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy and Participation in International Economic Organizations dated June 26 of this year.
“The draft order provides for the introduction, for a period of six months, of quantitative restrictions, or quotas, on the export of cattle meat — fresh, chilled and frozen — from Kazakhstan to third countries and countries of the Eurasian Economic Union in the amount of 25,000 tonnes,” the brief description of the document says.
The quotas are being introduced to ensure a raw material base for domestic meat-processing enterprises, increase the volume of agricultural product processing, raise added value within the country, create additional jobs, saturate the domestic market with meat products and stabilize prices.
The document will be open for public discussion until July 1 of this year.
Ban on meat exports from Kazakhstan
As a reminder, on December 31, 2025, rules for distributing quotas on meat exports to third countries and Eurasian Economic Union member states came into force in Kazakhstan. As reported, the measure will remain in effect until June 30, 2026. The total export quota for meat at that time was set at 20,000 tonnes.
The quota was introduced in October 2025. The Ministry of Agriculture said the main purpose of the restrictions was to ensure food security, stimulate deep processing of products, establish transparent statistics and ensure traceability of meat origin.
