Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed the law ratifying the Marrakesh Treaty, which facilitates access to published works for blind and visually impaired individuals, according to Akorda.
The ratification aims to officially join Kazakhstan to the Marrakesh Treaty, adopted at the World Intellectual Property Organization’s diplomatic conference on June 27, 2013. The document seeks to remove barriers to accessing literary and artistic works for people with visual impairments.
The treaty allows for the reproduction, distribution, and publication of works in formats accessible to blind and visually impaired individuals. It also enables cross-border exchange of such works through authorized entities, ensuring equal access to knowledge and information.
According to Senate deputies, Kazakhstan’s accession to the treaty will expand access to books, educational materials, and cultural works for people with visual disabilities while also fostering international exchange of accessible-format materials.
The Senate approved the law on January 16 of this year.
