Kazakhstan's JSC “Republican center for space communication" (RCSC) and Russia’s OJSC "Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems" (ISS) signed a contract to construct and launch Kazakhstan's KazSat-3 satellite. This was reported by the Press Service of the National Space Agency of Kazakhstan (Kazkosmos). The contract was signed within the framework of the 49th International Air Show in the Parisian suburbs of le Bourget. In addition, an agreement about production of payload elements for KazSat-3 between the ISS and the French company "Thales Alenia" was signed. Kazkosmos Chairman Talgat Mussabayev, Director General of the Russian Federal Space Agency Vladimir Popovkin and Thales Alenia Space Chief Executive Reynald Seznek attended the contract signing ceremony. The delegation of the National Space Agency (NSA) headed by Mussabayev arrived in Paris on June 20. Within the framework of the 49th International Paris Air Show Le Bourget the delegation is to meet representatives of the German Space Agency and have talks with the French space agency specialists and a number of other industry specialists. The launch of the second Kazakh satellite KazSat-2 was postponed, KazTAG had reported referring to the National Space Agency’s press-service. It was scheduled to July 10, but has been postponed to July 15. This is the fourth delay in the launch of the satellite. Initially it was scheduled to December 2009. KazSat 2 is a Kazakh communication satellite designed by Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center. It features 12 Ku-band transponders for fixed communications and 4 Ku-band transponders for TV-transmissions and is intended for telecast, fixed satellite communication and data transmission for Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The unit weighs 1,330 kg, its service life is 12 years. It was to supplement the KazSat 1 satellite, but will now replace Kazsat 1 due to the complete loss of the first satellite.
