Tengrinews.kz – Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, citing the Akorda presidential residence.
The meeting focused on prospects for strengthening the permanent comprehensive strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China, expanding inter-parliamentary dialogue, and enhancing cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian spheres. During the conversation, President Tokayev noted that the friendship between the two nations is built on a solid historical foundation and is developing steadily in a spirit of good-neighborliness and mutual trust.
"China has always supported Kazakhstan, for which we express our sincere gratitude to its people, leadership, and, of course, President Xi Jinping. Strengthening our permanent comprehensive strategic partnership on a continuous basis remains an unwavering priority for us. 2024 has become a historic year in the development of our bilateral relations. Mutual visits have provided powerful momentum for deepening our multifaceted cooperation. One of the most significant achievements is the growth of mutual trade to a record $49 billion. China is traditionally among Kazakhstan's largest investors, with total Chinese investment exceeding $29 billion. I recently signed the Law on the Ratification of the Agreement on the Promotion and Mutual Protection of Investments. This document will undoubtedly facilitate the expansion of investment cooperation between our two countries," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated.
The President noted that Kazakhstan and China have established a solid political framework for developing cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral formats.
"The positions of Kazakhstan and China on many international agenda items are aligned. Our countries cooperate fruitfully within the UN, SCO, and CICA. Kazakhstan highly values the global initiatives put forward by China in the areas of development, civilizational dialogue, and global governance. Our country supports the One China policy. We also fully support multilateral cooperation within the new Central Asia – China format," the Head of State said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took the opportunity to convey warm and sincere greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping. The President highlighted the effectiveness of the strategic course pursued by the leader of the People's Republic of China.
"I am convinced that the new 15th Five-Year Plan will further strengthen China's status as a global power and a highly developed nation playing a vital role on the international stage," the President said.
The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress conveyed President Xi Jinping's best wishes to the President of Kazakhstan.
"In recent years, China-Kazakhstan relations have developed dynamically and reached the level of a permanent comprehensive strategic partnership, thanks to the visionary leadership and support of President Xi Jinping and you personally. Last year, you met with our President twice in Astana and Tianjin outlining key directions for cooperation between our countries," Zhao Leji said.
The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress also congratulated the Head of State on the successful nationwide referendum to adopt Kazakhstan's new Constitution. In his view, the amendments to the Basic Law represent a strategically important decision for the long-term development of the state.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded Zhao Leji the Order of Friendship (Dostyk) of the I degree for his contribution to deepening the bilateral strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China.
