Tengrinews.kz – The Senate has approved a law on migration cooperation between Kazakhstan and Armenia. Under the agreement, the two countries will exchange citizen data to "combat illegal migration."

According to Senator Marat Kozhayev, the parties will share data on:

  • Place of residence registration;
  • Type of residency status (special, temporary, or permanent);
  • Citizenship status.

“This information is essential for fighting dual citizenship and blocking illegal migration channels. The agreement also clearly defines the forms of cooperation. Requests must be processed within 30 days, and must include the list of requested data and the procedure for execution,” said Kozhayev.

Kazakhstan and Armenia also agreed to:

  • Exchange statistics, legal, and methodological information;
  • Share information about citizens present in each other's territories;
  • Collaborate and assist in resolving migration-related issues.

However, if a request infringes on sovereignty, security, public order, or violates national laws or international agreements, the country has the right to refuse to comply, either fully or partially.

Responsible agencies:

  • Kazakhstan – Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Labor;
  • Armenia – Ministry of Internal Affairs.
