Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan intends to position itself as a logistics hub of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and act as a center for cooperation development, considering its geography, the Ministry of Trade and Integration told RIA Novosti.
"Given the geographical location and landlocked nature of our country, we are positioning Kazakhstan as a logistics hub of the EAEU. For this purpose, active work is underway to develop transport infrastructure along the 'East–West', 'North–South' directions, as well as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route," the ministry said.
At the same time, the ministry noted that Kazakhstan is the largest landlocked country in the EAEU, and within the union, there are commitments to provide Kazakhstani carriers with domestic railway tariffs toward seaports (mainly Taman, Ust-Luga, and others), which help reduce financial costs for Kazakhstani businesses.
According to the Ministry of Trade, funding is provided through 10 percent of the total revenue from anti-dumping duties collected by EAEU member states. The maximum subsidy for one project is 1.7 billion tenge ($3.3 million) per year, which will amount to approximately 87 billion tenge ($169.1 million) over five years.
"Kazakhstan, taking into account its geography and capabilities, aims to act as a center for cooperation development," the ministry added.
