Tengrinews.kz - A Kazakh citizen suspected of large-scale fraud has been extradited from Russia, according to the Prosecutor General's Office.
The suspect allegedly defrauded an entrepreneur between 2019 and 2020, acquiring heavy machinery worth approximately 53 million tenge and 35 million tenge in cash under false pretenses. The cash was paid for a vehicle that did not belong to him.
"After committing the crime, the suspect fled, leading to his placement on an international wanted list. He was apprehended in St. Petersburg in July this year. Following a request from Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General's Office, he was extradited and is now being held in a pre-trial detention center in Petropavlovsk," the statement reads.
If convicted, the suspect faces five to ten years in prison with confiscation of property.
Previously, the Prosecutor General's Office reported the arrest of a Kazakh citizen in Turkey, suspected of possessing analogs of psychotropic substances for distribution.
