Tengrinews.kz - Researchers in Kazakhstan are working to restore national dog breeds, according to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
The ministry reports that scientists are studying the genotypes of valuable domestic breeds of agricultural animals, assessing genetic diversity, and identifying functional variations using modern molecular-genetic methods.
"A DNA and biomaterial bank for Tazy dogs from various regions of Kazakhstan has been created. The gene pool status of Tazy populations in Kazakhstan has been assessed, and their population-genetic characteristics have been identified," the ministry stated in response to a Tengrinews.kz inquiry.
In addition, a state program is underway to study the gene pool of the national Kazakh dog breed Tobet, along with cryopreservation methods, to develop recommendations for effectively restoring and preserving the breed.
Earlier, the number of dead seals found on the Mangystau coastline surpassed 700. Alongside the seals, cormorants are also dying, entangled in fishing nets set illegally to catch sturgeon.
