Tengrinews.kz - Kazakh citizen restores his rights through court due to passport data error.
According to the press service of the Inter-district Civil Court of Astana, the court granted the claim of a Kazakh citizen whose rights were violated due to an error made by the migration services. As a result of this mistake, the citizen suffered financial losses and moral harm during his attempts to travel abroad on a tourist trip.
"In November 2023, a Kazakh citizen, after renewing his passport and purchasing a tour package to Thailand, encountered an issue at passport control—his new passport was listed as invalid. The error was corrected after the application," the statement reads.
After the error was fixed, the citizen purchased another tour package and went on vacation with his family. However, the troubles persisted. Upon arrival in Thailand, he was detained by local authorities and deported back to Kazakhstan. It turned out that his passport was still listed as invalid in the Interpol database and even marked as "criminal."
"Upon his return, it was revealed that the error had been corrected in the national database but not in the Interpol database, resulting in the citizen suffering losses twice. The court ruled to recover material damages and moral compensation from the defendants; however, the decision has not yet come into force," the press service noted.
Earlier, Kazakhstan approved visa-free agreement with Thailand.
