Kazakh citizens evacuated from conflict zone in Middle East

Tengrinews.kz - Amid the rapidly escalating conflict in the Middle East, Kazakhstan has evacuated its citizens from Iran, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Thanks to coordinated efforts and a high level of interagency cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant government bodies, and Kazakhstan’s diplomatic missions abroad, the evacuation of 109 Kazakh citizens has been successfully carried out,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, the evacuation was conducted via transit through friendly countries in the region.

“In particular, 89 people left Iran through Turkmenistan and 20 through Azerbaijan. All evacuees received consular and legal assistance and were provided with the necessary conditions for their return home,” the statement explained.

To facilitate the evacuation, Kazakh diplomats processed over 200 individual requests in a short period, maintained constant contact with groups of citizens across Iran, and coordinated their movement along pre-approved transit routes.

“The evacuation efforts are ongoing. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with other relevant agencies, is now working on the evacuation of Kazakh citizens from Israel. Ensuring the rights, safety, and well-being of Kazakhstanis abroad remains an unconditional priority of the country’s foreign policy,” the ministry emphasized.

Escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict

In the early hours of June 13, Israel launched a large-scale military operation called “Rising Lion.” Israeli warplanes struck targets in Iran linked to its military and nuclear programs. Israeli authorities stated that the actions were taken to protect the country from potential threats.

The attacks resulted in the deaths of senior Iranian military officials, including the Chief of the General Staff and the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Several scientists involved in Iran’s nuclear research were also reportedly killed.

The strikes hit nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, as well as military bases in northwestern Iran.

In response, Tehran launched its own counter-operation, “True Promise,” targeting Israeli military sites.

Media outlets report dozens dead and hundreds injured on both sides.
