The park administration announced the new measures on their Instagram, stating that a level 5 fire danger, the highest classification, has been declared in the area.

“In connection with the persistent establishment of an extreme (Class 5) wildfire risk within the Katon-Karagai State National Park, and in accordance with subparagraph 9 of paragraph 17 of fire safety regulations, restrictions are being introduced on the presence of individuals within the state forest fund,” the statement read.

Officials also urged the public to strictly follow fire safety rules when in or near forested areas.

Earlier, the Department of Emergency Situations of Almaty announced that the city was at fire hazard class 5.
