Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in an interview with the newspaper Turkistan that during discussions on tax reform he instructed that the VAT rate be lowered by four percentage points.
Tokayev noted that the previous government had proposed raising VAT, in fact up to 20 percent, having acknowledged the extreme necessity of such a step in light of mistakes made in fiscal policy.
“During the discussions, the current government also proposed increasing VAT to 20 percent, but I instructed them to lower the threshold by four percentage points,” the President said in the interview.
