Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstanis have noticed rising ticket prices on certain train routes, prompting a response from Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ).
Tengrinews.kz readers often comment on the increasing costs of ticket prices.
"Since last year, ticket prices on many routes have gone up by more than 50%," one user noted. "Flying is almost the same price if you book in advance," another added.
In response, KTZ explained that train fares are set according to a government-approved methodology that regulates price caps for socially significant routes.
"Ticket prices depend on travel distance (in kilometers), train category (express, passenger, branded), and carriage type (SV, coupe, platzkart, general). This pricing method aligns with international standards and is used across CIS countries to maintain a unified approach to railway tariffs," the company stated.
KTZ also reminded passengers that people with disabilities receive a 50% discount on socially significant train routes, as well as in designated compartments on commercial Talgo trains.
"These specialized compartments allow people with disabilities to travel with a companion, who is also eligible for a 50% discount. Discounted tickets can be booked commission-free through the company’s website by entering an individual identification number (IIN) and disability certificate number," KTZ added.
Earlier, JSC "Passenger Transportation" announced that the routes of Talgo trains running between Astana and Almaty will be modified.
