More than just food, Nauryz Kozhe is an important element of the holiday, bringing families together at the table. While recipes may vary slightly by region, the essence remains the same: a nutritious and wholesome combination of ingredients.
The classic recipe for Nauryz Kozhe includes dairy products, grains, and meat. Based on the latest figures from the Bureau of National Statistics, here are the current average prices of key ingredients across the country:
- Kefir (2.5%) – 446 tenge per liter
- Milk (2.5%) – 413 tenge per liter
- Pearl barley – 399 tenge per kilogram (lowest price in Kokshetau – 283 tenge per kilogram)
- Rice – 639 tenge per kilogram (cheapest in Shymkent – 535 tenge per kilogram)
- Horse meat – 3,098 tenge per kilogram
- Salt – 76 tenge per kilogram
The dish traditionally also includes kurt (dried fermented cheese), and in some regions of Kazakhstan, variations with mung beans, dried apricots, or noodles can also be found.
Earlier, it was reported that several streets would be closed during Nauryz celebrations in Almaty.
