Thanks to Qurban Ait, Kazakhstanis may get a three-day weekend in June.
When is Qurban Ait in 2025?
According to preliminary data from the Sharia and Fatwa Department of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan (SAMK), Qurban Ait will be celebrated on June 6, 7, and 8.
For a five-day workweek:
- June 6 (Friday), June 7 (Saturday), June 8 (Sunday) – days off.
For a six-day workweek:
- June 6 (Friday) – day off;
- June 7 (Saturday) – working day;
- June 8 (Sunday) – day off.
Note: SAMK emphasized that the exact date of Qurban Ait will be announced closer to the end of May, as it depends on the lunar calendar. A one-day shift is possible.
An official request has been sent to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Kazakhstan regarding a potential public holiday transfer. The results will be reported later.
What is Qurban Ait?
Qurban Ait is celebrated 70 days after Ramadan and symbolizes sacrifice, compassion, and helping others.
Traditions include:
- Special prayer (Ait namaz) in mosques;
- Sacrifice of animals (sheep, cow, or camel);
- Meat is shared with family, neighbors, and the needy.
The Ministry of Labor officially approves the holiday date based on religious recommendations.
How many days off in June 2025?
- Five-day workweek: 10 days off (including holidays), 20 working days;
- Six-day workweek: 6 days off, 24 working days.
