Tengrinews.kz - The Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) has decided to grant preliminary recognition to the Kazakh Tazy as an official dog breed and confirmed Kazakhstan's status as the breed standard holder, according to the President's Office website.

It is noted that the FCI's decision marks a key and final step before the full international recognition of the Kazakh Tazy breed.

"Today is a historic day for your country. The FCI Standards Commission and the Scientific Commission recommended that the General Committee accept the breed. Congratulations! There are 10 years of work ahead, including health tests and gathering statistics on the breed and puppies. FCI will monitor the development of the breed in Kazakhstan," said FCI President Tamas Jakkel, commenting on the General Committee's decision.

Since 2022, the preservation and international recognition of Kazakh dog breeds have been under the patronage of the President's Office at the instruction of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources has been designated as the authorized body.

Over the past two years, significant work has been carried out: changes have been made to laws, the Tazy breed standard has been approved, scientific research has been conducted, and breeding assessments and exhibitions have taken place.

Recognition of breeds is possible only through national canine organizations that are full members of the FCI. In August 2023, Kazakhstan Union of Cynologists became a full member of the FCI and obtained the right to declare its national dog breeds.

“We have met all the FCI requirements for recognizing the Kazakh Tazy as a distinct breed. All necessary procedures have been completed. Today, the FCI General Committee unanimously recognized the Kazakh Tazy at the global level. This is an important day for our culture and history, and we are committed to preserving and popularizing this national breed,” said Bauyrzhan Serikkali, President of the Union of Canine Specialists of Kazakhstan.

Earlier, Kazakh tazy gifted by Tokayev to Macron expecting puppies.

The tazy was considered one of the seven treasures of the Kazakhs. We must promote this breed and the Tobe breed on the international stage. Support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is crucial in this regard. The Tazy requires special care and a professional approach, which is why a special law has been enacted,” emphasized Kassym-Jomart Tokayev earlier.
