High-rise caught fire in Almaty overnight: video

Tengrinews.kz – A video of a fire in a residential building in the 5th microdistrict of Almaty has spread on social media. The footage shows a blaze in a multi-storey building and the work of fire crews.

What happened

On the social network Threads, a resident of Almaty posted a video from the scene of the fire.

“The cause of the fire is still unclear, except for one thing: the balcony on the 3rd floor caught fire…” she wrote.

Official comment from Almaty Emergency Department

According to the Almaty Emergency Department, the report of the fire was received on 27 January at 10:15 PM. Fire units were dispatched to a five-storey residential building in the Auezov district.

Upon arrival, it was established that a room and the balcony of an apartment on the third floor were engulfed in flames. The fire had also spread to the balcony of the apartment located one floor above. The total area of the fire was about 15 square meters.

The fire was extinguished at 10:48 PM — 24 minutes after the first units arrived. There were no casualties. The causes of the fire are being established.

The Emergency Department noted that the fire was promptly put out, which prevented it from spreading further to the apartments located above. Eleven Emergency Department employees and three units of special equipment were involved in the response.
