Tengrinews.kz - A forest fire has broken out in Kazakhstan’s Abai region.

According to the regional Department of Emergency Situations (DES), the blaze started due to the ignition of dry forest undergrowth.

"The fire occurred in the Borodulikha district, within the Zhernovsk forestry area. A helicopter was used to help contain the fire from the air, which allowed us to quickly stop it from spreading in a remote and difficult-to-reach location," the DES said.

Personnel from the regional DES and the Semey Ormany state forestry reserve were involved in the firefighting effort.

"Thanks to coordinated efforts, the fire was localized to an area of 0.7 hectares," officials added.

There is currently no threat to nearby settlements, and specialists are continuing to monitor the situation.

Earlier this year, in April, a forest fire also occurred in the Abai region in a pine forest. That incident was caused by a landfill fire near a village.
