Tengrinews.kz – The transition to a unicameral Parliament is an important step that must be made only through broad public discussion, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated at the first meeting of the working group on parliamentary reform, citing Akorda.
The Head of State emphasized that the initiative to establish a unicameral Parliament is an innovative political decision.
“Today, various opinions are being expressed in society and on social media. The overwhelming majority believes this is a ‘long-overdue issue.’ Some even say there is ‘no need to hold discussions or a referendum on an initiative already supported by most citizens.’ Others argue that ‘there is no reason to delay the reform and it could be implemented soon.’ Whatever the perspective, this issue is extremely relevant,”
“Active civic participation and the expression of diverse views is a positive process. However, parliamentary reform is a highly complex task. Haste is unacceptable, as this decision will be fateful for our country and will directly affect the state’s future. Such an important step must be taken only through broad public discussion,” Tokayev said.
He reminded that Kazakhstan is a Listening and Just State, and that this principle is immutable.
