Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has instructed the government to accelerate the construction of a nuclear power plant in the country and to find a location for the second one.
According to the President, against the backdrop of the growing energy deficit, the creation of a nuclear cluster in the country should be initiated.
"This is an important task for ensuring the progress of our country. I instruct the government, in cooperation with 'Samruk-Kazyna,' to develop long-term plans for the development of the nuclear industry. We need a clear vision. Based on comprehensive analysis, the most suitable locations for future nuclear power plants should be identified, along with modern and safe technologies," said Tokayev during the expanded government meeting.
The Head of State emphasized that he expects proposals from the government and parliament regarding the location of the second nuclear power plant.
"I reiterate: our country needs nuclear energy, without it, Kazakhstan’s progress will be in jeopardy. Energy is the driving force of the entire economy. Undoubtedly, only by providing energy to all regions can we lead them to prosperity and improve the quality of life for the population," concluded Tokayev.
An extended government meeting is taking place in Astana with the participation of the Head of State. Officials will review the country's socio-economic development results for 2024 and outline key priorities for the near future. Presentations will be given by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov, and several regional akims (governors).
