Government allocates billions for Kazakhstan's new satellite

The relevant resolution was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.

According to the government, the new KazSat-3R satellite will ensure the uninterrupted operation of the national satellite communications system after KazSat-3 reaches the end of its service life.

In addition, the project will make it possible to:

• ensure the stable operation of satellite communications and television and radio broadcasting;
• expand internet access in remote and sparsely populated areas;
• increase the level of information security;
• strengthen the country’s technological sovereignty.

It is noted that today the resources of the KazSat satellite system are used by Kazakhstan’s largest telecom operators and government agencies. The system provides television broadcasting, data transmission, mobile communications and internet access services. Nineteen telecom operators and more than two million television subscribers are connected to the system.

Earlier, in May 2025, Senate deputy Andrey Lukin said Kazakhstan should move away from the role of a “space power-landlord” and called for accelerating the creation of the KazSat-3R satellite.

At the same time, Lukin noted that the project required 40.2 billion tenge in state co-financing. He also proposed simplifying procurement procedures to attract foreign manufacturers of satellite technologies.
