Tengrinews.kz - The Shymkent Interdistrict Criminal Court has sentenced a fraudster who deceived a foreigner for an amount exceeding 500 million tenge.
According to the court, the foreigner took the money from a Chinese citizen that was intended for a joint business venture.
"By gaining the trust of the victim, M. deceived him and stole 537,080,505 tenge, which is an especially large amount. In addition, by gaining the trust of the victim A., he also repeatedly deceived and stole 50,000,000 tenge, which is also an especially large amount," the court's information stated.
The prosecution requested a 6.5-year prison sentence for the defendant. The victims also demanded strict punishment and the satisfaction of civil claims. The defendant denied his guilt and insisted on an acquittal. However, his guilt was proven by his own testimony, the testimony of the victims, physical evidence, and other case materials.
In determining the sentence, the court took into account the absence of mitigating circumstances and the fact that the defendant did not repent for his actions or compensate for the damage.
"He was sentenced to 8 years in prison. The civil claims of the victims were satisfied. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force," the court noted.
