Foreigner on international wanted list detained at Astana airport

Tengrinews.kz - A citizen of Azerbaijan wanted internationally for fraud was detained at Astana International Airport, according to Polisia.kz.

The man was detained following a request from Interpol’s National Central Bureau under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"In 2022, the suspect allegedly took large sums of money from local residents in Baku by falsely promising to help them purchase apartments in social housing," said the Ministry of Internal Affairs press service.

The individual attempted to fly from Astana to Dushanbe but is now held in a temporary detention facility by Astana police.

Earlier, a foreign national was detained at Almaty airport.
