Tengrinews.kz – Information has been circulating on social media claiming that Kazakh citizens are allegedly being detained en masse in Egypt.
According to the reports, Russian and Uzbek citizens were also said to have been detained.
It was claimed that law enforcement officers in Cairo were conducting raids targeting foreigners, including students. People were reportedly taken by force from streets and homes, with police also stationed near educational institutions. Despite having valid grounds to stay in the country, they were allegedly deported. Some reports claimed that personal belongings were confiscated during arrests and not returned.
However, the press service of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the claims, stating that no complaints have been received from Kazakh citizens.
“No reports have been received from Kazakh citizens. However, the embassy held a preventive meeting with students regarding compliance with Egypt’s migration laws,” the MFA press service said.
It is worth noting that reports have also recently appeared online about border issues and alleged discrimination against Kazakh citizens in Georgia. Kazakhstan has officially expressed concern over frequent entry refusals and informed Tbilisi, which has since responded. More details on that can be found here.
