Tengrinews.kz – As the flu season continues across Kazakhstan, doctors are reminding residents how to protect themselves from viral infections and when to seek medical help.
According to the Almaty Department of Public Health, the number of respiratory infections typically rises during the autumn and winter months. The first symptoms often include a runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, mild fever, fatigue, and loss of appetite. In children, drowsiness may also occur — a sign that the body is beginning to fight the virus.
Doctors’ advice
Pediatrician Akerke Botayeva from Almaty City Polyclinic No. 28 emphasized that in most cases, acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) in children resolve without complications if parents provide proper care.
“If a child has no high fever and feels generally well, short walks are allowed. Fresh air helps breathing and speeds up recovery. The main thing is to avoid overexposure to cold,” she said.
Meanwhile, general practitioner Akmaral Zhakhanova warned against taking antibiotics for viral infections.
“Starting antibiotics without a doctor’s advice is not recommended. It’s important to monitor your condition, drink plenty of fluids, air out your home, and get enough rest. If symptoms worsen, don’t delay seeing a doctor,” she advised.
Physicians also reminded that flu vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to prevent severe illness and complications during the season.
