Tengrinews.kz - Around 100 Turkmenian kulans were captured on video in Kazakhstan’s Kyzylorda region.
The video was shared on the official Instagram account of the Barsakelmes Nature Reserve.
"The Turkmenian kulan (Equus hemionus kulan) was recorded within the territory of the Barsakelmes Nature Reserve," the organization wrote.

According to their press service, the video was taken early in the morning during a patrol by Galymzhan Bazarbayev, head of reserve security. The footage shows a group of about 100 kulans.
"Turkmenian kulans can reach up to 140 cm in height and can run at speeds of 60–70 km/h. They reproduce in spring and summer and are listed in Kazakhstan’s Red Book of endangered species," the organization reminded.
Kulans live in herds. According to the spring 2025 census, about 900 Turkmenian kulans inhabit the Barsakelmes Reserve.
