Tengrinews.kz - Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a national meeting on the development of monotowns (single-industry towns).
The meeting took place in the Karaganda region, where the Prime Minister was on a working visit. The session focused on new strategies for developing monotowns, in line with instructions from the President. During the meeting, it was revealed that Ekibastuz may soon no longer be classified as a monotown.
“Ekibastuz is transforming into a city with a more diversified economic structure, which makes its monotown status no longer relevant,” said Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
He instructed officials to intensify efforts in shaping a new infrastructure policy and emphasized that the main priority should be attracting investors to these towns.
“We can build hospitals, schools, stadiums, and other social facilities in every town, but if there’s no work, people won’t stay. That’s why we need to attract investors and create the right conditions for them. We must offer unused buildings and land plots and open new production facilities. Without such measures, there will be no development. That’s why the most important issue is attracting investors. In cities like Saran, Ekibastuz, and others, there are already some results, but we need to work more actively in this direction,” Bektenov added.
