The earthquake was recorded on August 27 at 01:33 a.m. Astana time by the network of seismic stations of the National Nuclear Center’s Institute of Seismology under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan.

“The epicenter was located 2,321 kilometers southwest of Almaty, on the territory of Russia. The estimated intensity in Mangystau region, 209 kilometers from Aktau, was 2 points,” the Emergency Ministry reported.

The tremors were felt across all Caspian countries – Kazakhstan, Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Iran – as well as in Armenia.

Readers of Tengrinews.kz from Aktau also reported feeling the tremors.

Later, the Department of Emergency Situations of Mangystau region reported that there was no information about casualties or destruction.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported that the earthquake off the Caspian Sea coast had a magnitude of 6 at the epicenter.

Residents of settlements in Dagestan wrote on social media that they felt several tremors. Many people in Derbent and Makhachkala went outside, fearing aftershocks. No damage or injuries have been reported.

A day earlier, seismologists in Kazakhstan registered an earthquake in Kyrgyzstan. According to the Kazakh Data Center of the Institute of Geophysical Research at the National Nuclear Center, the tremors occurred at 10:59 p.m. Astana time, with a magnitude of 5 and a depth of 2 kilometers.
