The tremor occurred at 13:35 Astana time. Seismologists confirmed that the epicenter was located within Kazakhstan. However, the earthquake was not felt by residents, and no damage or casualties have been reported.

Earlier this month, on July 16, another earthquake struck near the Kazakhstan–Kyrgyzstan border, with its epicenter in Kyrgyzstan, approximately 379 kilometers southwest of Almaty. That quake also went unnoticed in Kazakhstan.

On July 8, a stronger earthquake was recorded in the Zhambyl region, 126 kilometers east of Taraz. That event reached intensities of 2 to 6 on the MSK-64 scale, but no injuries or structural damage were reported.
