According to operational data from the Kazakh Data Center of the Institute of Geophysical Research of the National Nuclear Center, an earthquake was recorded on the territory of Russia on December 9 at 3:36 PM Astana time. The magnitude of the tremors was 5.0.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 40 kilometers northwest of the Russian village of Aktash.

It should be noted that on December 4, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck southern Xinjiang in China. The tremors were strong enough to be felt in Almaty, as well as in the Almaty, Zhambyl, and Zhetisu regions.
