Tengrinews.kz – Residents of Almaty felt an earthquake.
People in Almaty reported noticeable tremors: walls and chandeliers in apartments shook slightly, messages began flooding through messengers, and many residents — especially those living in high-rise buildings — went outside just in case.
According to seismologists, the tremors were caused by a magnitude 6.1 earthquake in southern Xinjiang, China.
Almost immediately, phones began receiving seismic activity alerts, and social networks filled with dozens of posts from Almaty residents describing how the quake was felt in different parts of the city.
We requested a comment from the city’s Emergency Situations Department.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), a seismic event was recorded on December 4 at 12:44 PM by the network of seismic stations.
"The epicenter was located 277 kilometers southeast of Almaty, on the territory of China. Coordinates of the epicenter: 41.021° N, 78.387° E. Depth: 5 kilometers. Magnitude MPV 6.7," the MES reported.
