Tengrinews.kz - Mazhilis deputies in Kazakhstan have proposed raising the state fee for divorce as part of amendments to the Tax Code, a move aimed at making the process more deliberate and less impulsive.
Under the new version of the Tax Code, the state duty for filing a divorce would increase from 0.5 MCI (1,966 tenge in 2025) to 5 MCI (19,660 tenge in 2025).
According to Mazhilis Deputy Berik Beisengaliyev, the proposed increase is intended to encourage couples to take the decision to divorce more seriously.
"Raising the fee will undoubtedly act as a deterrent for those making emotionally driven decisions to end a marriage. This could help reduce the number of unwarranted divorces, particularly among young people," Beisengaliyev told a Tengrinews.kz correspondent.
He emphasized that the measure is not about boosting state revenues, but about fostering a more responsible attitude toward marriage and family.
Earlier, Mazhilis Deputy Askhat Aimagambetov spoke about the main changes contained in the draft of the new Tax Code.
