Tengrinews.kz - A new 157-hectare tourism district, planned to include hotels, restaurants, and entertainment complexes, is set to be created in Astana.

The portal "Open NPA" is currently discussing a project to establish a multifunctional tourism district in Astana within the framework of the Astana Technopolis Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Ministry of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan has proposed changes aimed at accelerating city development and attracting investments in tourism.

"The project was developed at the instruction of First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar and provides for the expansion of the Astana Technopolis SEZ to accelerate Astana's growth and attract tourism investments," the document states.

The project proposes allocating a subzone within the Astana Technopolis SEZ, covering an area of 157.6 hectares, for the tourism district. The development of this subzone will attract private and international investments, accelerating Astana’s progress in tourism, healthcare, and social sectors.

"The expansion of the zone aims to create conditions for businesses and tourists, develop infrastructure, and establish Astana's image as an international tourism center," states the project explanation.

The changes will also affect the territorial plans and zoning of the SEZ "Astana – New City," which covers an area of 15,264.135 hectares and includes zones such as Industrial Park No. 1, development and renovation areas, as well as a section for a light rail line.

The resolution stipulates that the Astana Technopolis SEZ will become a key instrument for improving the investment climate and growth of Astana, attracting tourists, revitalizing cultural and social life, expanding its economic potential, and strengthening Astana's competitive position as a tourism center in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

The document has been put out for public discussion until November 12.
