Tengrinews.kz - Deputy of the Mazhilis Zhuldyz Suleimenova voiced a request about the status of libraries, museums and scientific archives, as well as social security for their employees.

As an example, she cited the Central Scientific Library in Almaty, the Museum of the History of Kazakhstan Science, and the Scientific Archive of Kazakhstan.

"The library's book collection contains 5.8 million unique publications, including 20 thousand manuscripts from the 15th-18th centuries and 900 thousand scientific publications in more than 100 languages. This is the country's intellectual heritage! However, the library building does not meet modern requirements: the air conditioning system does not work, it is cold in winter, hot in summer, and the humidity level is not regulated. As a result, historically valuable books fall apart, the bindings are destroyed and disappear," the deputy noted in her question.

According to Suleimenova, qualified specialists are needed to preserve and study such valuables. The library employs 40 employees, including librarians with 20 years of experience who receive a salary of 100 thousand tenge. While Kazakhstan is gradually increasing librarians' salaries, employees of the Central Scientific Library are not affected by these increases.

According to Suleimenova, the Museum of the History of Kazakhstan Science and the Scientific Archive of Kazakhstan are experiencing similar problems.

"The lack of modern equipment and digital technologies reduces the quality of the museum's work and leads to a reduction in the number of visitors. Low wages cause an outflow of professional personnel, which does not allow the museum to develop as a full-fledged scientific and educational institution," the deputy noted.

To resolve the issue, Suleimenova called for raising the status of these institutions, as well as raising wages, and improving social guarantees and working conditions for their employees.

Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev granted national status to two museums in Kazakhstan.

According to the presidential decree, the status of "National" has been awarded to the A. Kasteyev State Museum of Arts and the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, both under the Ministry of Culture and Information.
