Tengrinews.kz - A criminal investigation has been launched after heavy flooding submerged the courtyard of an unfinished residential complex in Astana up to the second floor, Industry and Construction Minister Yersayin Nagaspayev confirmed.

What happened

The incident occurred on Kordai Street, where the construction of the "ZhanaArka" residential complex began in 2022 but was halted due to financial difficulties. Recent rainfall led to severe flooding in the courtyard of the abandoned site.

According to city officials, the flooding was caused by the developer’s failure to complete the internal engineering infrastructure of the complex.

What the ministry said

“We’re aware of the situation. The developer is BBC Gold. Construction is not currently underway. Law enforcement has launched a criminal case. (...) There are ongoing discussions about transferring this unfinished project to the affected equity holders,” said Minister Nagaspayev.

He also noted that there are currently 42 problematic construction sites across the country.

Previously, developers of a residential complex in East Kazakhstan were arrested on suspicion of embezzling nearly 2 billion tenge.
