Tengrinews.kz – The nationwide contest to choose the best name for Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant has ended, with over 27,000 participants taking part.
According to the Atomic Energy Agency, such high engagement “demonstrates the strong public interest in developing nuclear energy and citizens’ willingness to contribute personally to a project of national importance.”
The process of reviewing and analyzing the submitted entries has now begun.
“At the first stage, specialists will analyze and categorize all submissions, after which a consolidated report will be prepared. The materials will then be reviewed by the competition commission. The final meeting, scheduled for the end of October, will determine the best name for Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant,” the statement said.
Contest background
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev first proposed holding a contest for the name of the plant in early August. The Atomic Energy Agency announced it was ready to accept name suggestions from the public.
Shortly afterward, some participants even suggested selling the naming rights.
In early September, Agency Chairman Almasadam Satkaliyev signed an order establishing a commission to organize the national contest to name the NPP located in Zhambyl District, Almaty Region.
